We’re excited to share that we have started work on our first ever specialist education project – a huge milestone for us at Flexible Business Interiors (FBI).

For the past 34 years, we’ve built our reputation on delivering high-quality commercial fit-outs and refurbishments, with 90% of our work coming from commercial clients. But when the opportunity came up to work with Ascent Autism Specialist College, we fast-tracked our programme to secure the contract, and are proud to now be delivering a truly meaningful space.

Located at 11 The Parks in Newton-le-Willows, the 10,330 sq ft site will be completely transformed over a 15-week period. What was once a traditional office building will soon become a bespoke, inclusive learning environment tailored to the needs of young adults aged 16–25 with autism.

Working closely with NJSR Chartered Architects, college staff and even the students themselves the team has made sure every element of the space supports learning, independence and wellbeing. NJSR’s design includes everything from traditional classrooms to a common room, chill zone, breakout spaces and a fully equipped conference suite, all set to be delivered over the next 10 weeks.

Robin Bush, CEO of the Remarkable Autism Charity, which operates the college, said: “We are overjoyed that work has begun with FBI. Their expertise has brought our vision to life – creating an inspiring, future-focused space for young adults with neurodiversity to flourish.”

Ascent College has grown rapidly, from just 12 students in 2022 to 40 this academic year. Students travel from across the region, including as far as Bolton, to access its specialist teaching. The new site will allow the college to continue growing and giving young people the tools they need to succeed in life beyond education.

We’re proud to be playing a part in that journey and look forward to unveiling a space that sets a new standard for specialist further education.
